Our Roast Beef Sandwich Recipe is inspired by Arby's roast beef and cheddar sandwiches! They're piled high with thin slices of our Homemade Roast Beef, then smothered in our super decadent cheddar cheese sauce and finished between a soft sesame bun.

Does anyone remember those ’90s Arby’s commercials promoting their Roast Beef Sandwich – specifically their roast beef and cheddar sandwich? It’s one of those commercials that stuck out to me so much and I’m not sure why. Was it the mile high piled roast beef? The thick cheddar cheese sauce dripping down the sides? Or was it the “5 for $5” advertising? Who knows – but it’s something I still remember to this day.

Admittedly I never actually had one of those sandwiches ha!), but I was thinking about it the other day, and since we had just finished shooting our easy roast beef recipe, I had a big chunk sitting in my fridge. It was the perfect opportunity to try it out and man was it tasty! Naturally we had to put up our own version.

    2. Remove mixture from heat and stir in grated cheese, small handfuls at a time, until all cheese has been added and cheese sauce is smooth.

Why This is the Best Roast Beef Sandwich Recipe!

    • We are using a homemade roast beef that’s jam packed with flavor and there’s no beating a homemade roast!
    • Our cheese sauce is a game changer and makes our sandwich extra savory and decadent vs the typical sliced cheese.
    • We keep it nice and simple, so the flavor of the beef and cheese sauce really comes through.

What to Serve with Our Roast Beef Sandwich

Although this sandwich is a big beast, we can’t help but want to pair it with some of our favorite sides like:

    • Hawaiian Macaroni Salad
    • Homemade Potato Chips with a Gorgonzola Cheese Sauce
    • Crispy Baked Cauliflower Tots
    • Panko Fried Pickle Chips
    • Baked Asparagus Fries
    • Root Vegetable Chips

Variations for our Roast Beef Sandwich

    • We use a simple sesame bun for our sandwich recipe, but you can go a fancier route by using brioche burger buns or something like everyone’s favorite potato burger buns.
    • We also kept our roast beef sandwich simple, like the Arby’s one, but it’s also delicious loaded with lettuce, sliced tomatoes and sliced red onions, so feel free to load it up with your favorite sandwich fixings if that’s what you prefer!
