A close up of a piece of cinnamon sugar messy bread with vanilla icing. A recipe for Cinnamon Sugar Messy Bread. We’re ending our week of pizza dough with a dessert, our cinnamon sugar messy bread with vanilla icing! It’s super easy to make and fun to eat. I made mini loaves because I thought they were cute, but you can also make one large loaf (baked for a longer amount of time). These are the mini loaf pans that I used.  This is a fun way to turn a savory pizza dough recipe into a sweet treat.

I think everyone should bake a prosciutto, butternut squash and kale pizza this weekend, serve it with parmesan-garlic straws and finally finish the meal off with everyones own individual cinnamon sugar messy bread. It’s a great way to use a basic pizza dough, three different ways.

    Enjoy! xx Jenny

    RECIPE BY Teri & Jenny
    Servings: 12

      INGREDIENTS

    • ½ recipe for basic pizza dough
    • ½ cup granulated sugar
    • 1 ½ tablespoons cinnamon
    • ½ cup (1 stick) sweet cream butter, melted

    vanilla icing

    • 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
    • 1 ½ tablespoons milk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

      INSTRUCTIONS

    • Preheat oven to 375°F.
    • Cut dough into small, 1 inch pieces. Set aside.
    • Place sugar and cinnamon into a small bowl and toss together until completely mixed.
    • Dip dough pieces into melted butter and shake off excess.
    • Next, dredge buttered dough pieces into cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated.
    • Grease mini loaf pans and begin filling with coated pieces of dough until pans are filled.
    • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until sticky and golden brown. Remove loaves from pans, onto a cooling rack and allow messy breads to cool until just slightly warm.
    • For icing: Place sugar, milk and vanilla in a small mixing bowl and stir together with a fork (using a whisk will cause air bubbles to form in the icing).
    • Drizzle icing over messy bread loaves and serve.

This recipe was delicious. But the instructions are very misleading when they say to bake for 20 minutes. Mine took over an hour. I made it at work so it was just a little frustrating because it took so long that it made me run late for basically the rest of the day.

Did you make these in mini loaf pans or a full size loaf pan? The mini loaves will definitely bake in 20-25 minutes. A full loaf will take much longer.

Question: If I take pizza dough out of the fridge do I need to let it rise until it’s double or can I use it right away. Appreciate anyone’s advice. Thank you!

You don’t need to let it double in size, but i would let it sit out for a little while (maybe 30 minutes) so the dough is a little more pliable

This recipe is fantastic! Had some leftover bread dough and wanted an easy cinnamon-roll-like dessert without the work. I didn’t even cut it into even pieces. Just tore off bite-sized wads with my hands, started dunkin’, and baked it in a small, greased casserole dish. So easy, incredibly delicious, and tastes like I spent hours on it.

Used bread flour, which required an extra 1/3 cup of water.

Coated dough balls in leftover chai sugar (cinnamon, cardamom, clove, allspice, ginger).

Made into one large loaf, baking time was closer to 24-25 minutes.

Didn’t bother to make the icing as I thought it would be sweet enough. It’s been 6 hours since it came out, and half the loaf is gone — that should say enough.

First time visiting and am going to make this as soon as I get back from grocery store. Thinking about making 2 larger loafs and tossing in some presoaked raisins In one and some diced apple in the other just to make it more nutitional so
I can eat more of it and not feel so guilty. Nothing is more delicious then cinnamon.

Is there any way to substitute bread flour? Like all- purpose flour?

Frozen pizza dough will work just fine! Just make sure to fully thaw it out! Happy Thanksgiving!
