Cement and Wood Place Card DIY

    by Teri Lyn Fisher · Published: Nov 20, 2015 · Modified: Oct 24, 2020

A DIY cement and wood place card with a pear on a place setting.

Hi! We have one more place card DIY for you for Thanksgiving or Holidays or any special dinner situations. This time I decided to use materials that would give a place card a very neutral feel, and that are very on trend, cement and wood. This DIY might look a little tricky, but once you have all the materials it’s so easy. I used a chalk pen to write the names which is very awesome because it comes right off with a wet rag so you can reuse these place cards! ☺

    Let’s get started:

    You will need:

    1. 2” square silicone ice cube trays. I used these because they are actually a perfect cube with no bevled edges which I have found a lot of on other square ice cube trays.

    2. Quick Dry Cement. I used this because it was a small bag, and is a fine powder which is best for this because you don’t want huge chunks.

    3. Gorilla Glue

    4. 2” wood blocks. I bought mine right here.

    5. Chalk Pen. I used this brand.

    6. Find Sand Paper

    Directions:

    1. Make your cement as per the directions of the manufacturer. Fill the ice cube mold with cement. I filled mine about ¾ of the way full. Let dry for a least two days.

    2. Take the cement out of the ice cube molds. Just a quick note that I used silicone because I know it will release the cement easily. Sand the rough edges of the cement using fine sand paper.

    3. Glue the cement block to the top of the wood block using the gorilla glue. Let dry for at least one hour.

    4. Write the names of the people on the cement with your chalk pen and that is it! ☺A close up of a DIY cement and wood place card with a pear.
