Basic Piping Buttercream
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 3 ½ cups sifted powdered sugar
- ½ tablespoon heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a stand mixer, fitted with a paddle attachment, beat together butter and shortening until light and fluffy.
Add powdered sugar, ½ cup at a time and continue to beat together.
Scrape down sides of the bowl and add cream and vanilla. Beat until light and fluffy.
